I was up at 2 a.m. briefly and saw the snow starting to fly! Just like they predicted. After such a big weekend outdoors, Matthew slept in this morning! Meaning, the rest of us did likewise. The power went off for maybe an hour. It started to get kind of cold! Nice snuggling under the covers. When we were crawling out of bed, all of a sudden we heard a whistle. Who was that in the house? Adam was home! Gillette actually has 'snow days!' Never knew there was such a thing here. Being so tough and all. But it was a spring blizzard outside, with more coming. Buckskin Mine was going to have a skeleton crew today. Then just as Adam was leaving at 8 a.m., they were getting word, "shut everything down, send everyone home." That was a very big surprise. This is the mine that runs 365 days of the year. It doesn't shut down. Today should be an interesting day. Roads were closing as Adam came home. Well, the mine roads, all the rest had already been shut down to all travel. Visibility was very poor on the way home.
I called Dad since they were planning on taking a trip to Colorado tomorrow, and see us on the way. He had been watching reports all week and had been undecided. But after our phone call it was easy to see that they would stay home. Nine hours in between Gillette and Malta wasn't going to happen.
It snowed all day without one let-up. Just beautiful. Adam and Matthew went out to shovel this afternoon. It was big gusts of wind full of snow right in their faces. And we are in a very protected area in town. Matthew toughed it out. Daddy's little right hand man. It got down to 22 degrees this afternoon and 2 with the windchill. At least a 60 degree difference from yesterday. Big change. The electricity flickered off and on all day. But never for long. Today we made vegetable juice for the first time since we moved. Yeah! Feel better already!
