Adam

The picture to the right is of Buckskin Mine. We flew with Phil Olsen in his Navion 1948 airplane. Unfortunately he had a crash landing flying home with his family right after this near Three Forks! They were all basically unhurt and the plane was totaled.

Despite all the excitement, this ride renewed Adam's desire to fly his own plane someday.

Adam works at Buckskin Mining Co., a subsdiary of Kiewit Mining Group Inc. It is the northernmost of 14 mines here in the Powder River Basin. He is a maintenance planner/engineer there at the mine. Buckskin digs more than 27 million tons of coal yearly. Since 1981 it has shipped more than 285 million tons of high-quality, low sulfur coal making it one of the most productive coal mines in America. They have a large variety of machinery and within this fleet they maintain the largest mining equipment in the world.

Much of Adam's time though, is also spent with computer training and budgeting for Buckskin, as well as cost review for the mining group. He has also helped with the bidding for future distirct jobs in the oil sands of northern Alberda, Canada. Before Kaitlyn was born he went to district headquarters in Omaha, NE a number of times for this. But we are happy that he's been working on budgets from behind his own desk since!

Adam just started attending classes from the Extension Office here in town to become a master gardener. This summer he looks forward to getting outdoors and working with his hands again.
