April 2nd, Saturday
Adam returned home from his District Meeting in Deadwood, South Dakota friday, April 1st. He learned a lot and continues meeting more and more people. It's especially nice seeing old co-workers when they all get together for things like this. One of the speakers this past week showed them how to make paper boats. So here Adam is showing Matthew and Kaitlyn the procedure.The conference was four days, 3/29 - 4/1, and he had been expecting to get home at 6:30 p.m. friday evening. But their flight was delayed...and when it was delayed a second time, they decided to rent three vehicles and simply drive home. The flight was then canceled and they were glad that they decided to drive. Adam got home at about midnight.

It was 82 degrees here in Nebraska City, April 3rd! We were all so surprised. Our first summer day. (This isn't Kaitlyn coming up the slide.)
It is such a pretty town. Old historical buildings, Arbor Day Farm and other orchards in the area.
Happy 45th Anniversary Dad and Mom Solberg!!

We ended up driving over to Lincoln on the spur of the moment. Our state capitol and proud home of the Nebraska Huskers. It was our first time there and was very pretty.
Back home in Plattsmouth we stopped at our little campsite just outside of town. I like to go here often to see how high the Missouri is. It was so cold! After so much driving for the day, I insisted we get out. Oops. It had dropped to 40 degrees with a definite wind chill. Big temperature change for the day from 82 earlier.
We were out for about a total of 30 seconds. Not enough clothes for this.
Just down the road is the convergence of the Platte (on the left) and Missouri River (on the right). It's hard to tell, but mainly the final result of the Missouri is the main part that can be seen from this vantage point.
This has only been open to through traffic 3 months that I know of since we've lived here. As you can see the land looks pretty beat up still from last spring's flooding. There was a road sign a little ways behind where I took this picture. It is hard to read and all muddy still from having been totally submerged under the water.
Here is the little peninsula of land in the middle of the picture, ending between the two rivers as they come together. You can just see the last weeds/tall grass out there in the middle.

Adam found a great deal on a chipper this week. He is Very Excited to get that going!
April 5th we went to the retirement home with the Lanhams and sang hymns to the residents. Our 4th time there and it's going really good. So far I'm not brave enough to ask someome to take our picture. Pretty soon!
April 7th, thursday, we went out of town about 5 miles to a little horse farm. The kids got to ride a miniature horse!
Mercy, Betty and Kaitlyn. For three days it had been gorgeous weather. But today we were very under dressed. Brrr. Instead of a picnic at the end - we just decided to go home and warm up and eat! But you sure can't tell with these awesome kids!

This was the third time for the Lanham kids to come out for a ride. And when the owner asked who wanted to go first, Matthew quickly volunteered. He's been on two other little horse rides growing up, but I kind of asked if he wanted one of the other 'more experienced' kids to go first. They were all silent, just looking at me, and Matthew happily went first!

I unfortunately didn't get a picture of him! There were two dogs with us and Kaitlyn was not happy about that. So I was trying to help reassure her everything was fine.
Kaitlyn was Not interested whatsoever about riding the horse or petting him or brushing him. So I had given up trying to encourage her. When the owner asked her personally if she was ready to go, "Yes," was her simple reply. What a pleasant surprise! She got right on and rode around the arena three times just like everyone else!
I don't know what these spots are from! It was a little misty outside... But here is Micah going last, the little gentleman. They all liked it so much!
By the way, this is a new camera I'm using!! Adam won it during his Deadwood trip! They had a scavenger hunt and his team won. It took some skill and attention to detail, so he was pretty happy for the accomplishment he was part of.

After Deadwood, Adam was ready to go farming! He borrowed this rototiller from our neighbor who also gardens back here. This is an empty lot behind our house.
He's ready for Big Gardening! We are going to leave the grass in between the planted parts. Keeping it short - that way, keeping the weeds down easier.
Oh no. The engine blew.
It literally blew a hole through the engine. Adam wasn't hurt. But the piston is definitely shot out! Plus the entire engine.
So off the engine comes and Adam found a new one to replace it with within the week!

Micah and Matthew were Everywhere Very Quickly. So I didn't get any good pictures of them. What a fun, fun day! They also had a very nice play area that Matthew was especially taken with. The favorite was a little ramp to ride down on with a car. It was on a hill and went very fast for quite a distance. Super Good.
They even had some fainting goats (in the breeding process something went a little wrong), chickens and ducks. Here was a baby duck we held.

The next day we went back to the Lanhams and got some raspberry and blackberry bushes! So here we are with some 'much needed equipment' to plant them out back.
Can't quite remember what day these last pictures were taken. It was definitely sometime before the berry bushes. Sometime in the past week...

We have a lot of peonies coming up. We moved in after they had all bloomed last year. So looking forward to seeing them and what color they are.
Matthew was sick this week and then Kaitlyn followed, April 10....and for a little while. So we didn't have any more pictures for about a week or two.
So great to see spring here! All around town there are also flowering trees everywhere. So beautiful!
